View full detailsMatelec is what sits between your pump and a 2am callout, and that is exactly why we stock it. Every Matelec controller, alarm, float switch and probe on this page carries a live price and an add to cart button. You will not hit a "request a quote" wall, and you will not wait two days for someone to email you a number. You choose the Matelec model, you pay, we dispatch. Free shipping applies on orders over $100 Australia wide.
We are Pumptastic, based at Greenfields in Western Australia, a short run down the freeway from Perth and right on the doorstep of the Peel region. We have spent years specifying control gear for bore setups, sewage pits, rainwater changeover systems and fire hose reel pumps, so we do not just list Matelec part numbers and hope. If you send us a photo of your pit and tell us the pump kW and phase, we will tell you which Matelec unit fits and which one is overkill for the job.
Matelec Australia designs and builds its pump and motor control range in house at its Victorian manufacturing facility, with a company history running back decades and products built to Australian Standards. That matters more than most buyers realise. Imported control panels often ship with parts you cannot source locally, manuals you cannot follow, and terminal layouts your sparky has never seen. A Matelec panel opens up with a familiar DIN rail, standard contactors, clear terminal marking and a manual written for Australian wiring rules. When something trips at a remote site, that difference is measured in days.
The range here covers Matelec HydroSTART and HydroSTART PRO submersible level controllers, Matelec HydroWHIZ controllers, stainless steel 316 enclosure versions for coastal and corrosive sites, soft starter builds for larger motors, set point level alarms, under sink and sullage alarms, 9004 series float switches and multi level float trees. Below you will find plain English guidance on choosing between them, then ten questions we actually get asked on the phone.
WA is hard on electrical gear. Salt air from Mandurah through to Geraldton eats mild steel enclosures. Karratha and Port Hedland cook anything with marginal thermal headroom. Inland sites near Kalgoorlie run on generators with voltage that wanders. A Matelec panel is specified with that in mind, which is why you see IP56 ratings, inner door options and 316 stainless steel variants across the Matelec catalogue rather than as a special order.
The practical benefit is repairability. A Matelec board is serviceable. Contactors and overloads are standard sizes your local wholesaler stocks. Spares stay available for years, not months. For a council pump station or a farm 400km from the nearest electrical contractor, a Matelec unit you can fix with parts from town beats a sealed imported box you have to freight back east every time.
This is the workhorse. The Matelec HydroSTART handles single or dual pump level control with a capacitive touch keypad, pump current sensing and adjustable configuration. Single phase 230V and three phase 400V builds are both here, in 0.1 to 16A and 12 to 18A current ranges, with and without inner door. If you run a sewage pit, a stormwater sump or a transfer tank, start here. Pair it with our submersible pumps or Tsurumi range.
The Matelec HydroSTART PRO is the flagship dual pump controller, aimed at contractors who need logged data, duty and standby alternation and proper fault history rather than a light that blinks. The 316 stainless steel Matelec versions are the ones to choose for coastal installs, wash down areas and anywhere chlorine or effluent vapour is present. Polycarbonate and extended current variants are also stocked.
The Matelec HydroWHIZ range is built around ease of use. It carries the control logic of the larger Matelec units into a simpler interface for operators who are not electricians. Good choice for irrigation sheds, community facilities and sites where whoever is on shift needs to reset a fault without calling anyone.
The Matelec FPC-12650 basic high level alarm and the FPC-12651 deluxe set point alarm plus give you audible and visual warning before a tank overflows. The deluxe Matelec unit adds a strobe. Under sink and sullage alarm versions with valve shutoff are stocked for commercial kitchens and greywater setups. Cheap insurance against a flooded plant room.
Matelec 9004 series float switches are oil and chemical resistant, which is why they last in sewage and industrial pits where a generic float perishes. The Matelec multi level float tree bundles three floats on a tangle resistant mount, a genuine time saver in a deep pit. Browse our wider float switch range and level control components.
Start with phase and current. Check the pump nameplate for single phase 230V or three phase 400V, then read the full load amps. Your Matelec controller must cover that FLA inside its range, so a 14A pump needs the 12 to 18A Matelec build, not the 0.1 to 16A one running at its ceiling.
Next, decide what is doing the sensing. Floats are cheap, reliable and fine for most pits. A 4-20mA hydrostatic transducer gives you actual level readout and is worth it on tanks where you care about volume. Conductivity probes suit clean water. Our pressure transducer range pairs with the compatible Matelec inputs.
Then pick the enclosure. IP54 is indoor and sheltered. IP56 with inner door is the safe default for outdoor WA installs. Stainless steel 316 is for coastal and corrosive. Getting this wrong is the single most common Matelec buying mistake we see, and it usually shows up as rust two summers later.
Finally, size the start method. Direct on line is fine to roughly 4kW. Above that, a soft starter Matelec build protects your pipework and your motor windings, and keeps your generator happy at remote sites. Have a look at our full pump controller collection and automation and control solutions if you are comparing across brands.
We have looked hard at the other Australian sites selling Matelec. Two things stand out. Most hide pricing behind "request a quote or call for latest pricing", which means you cannot compare, cannot budget and cannot buy at 9pm when you are actually doing your ordering. And almost none of them explain how to select a Matelec unit. They list part numbers and a brochure link, which is fine if you already know exactly what you want and useless if you do not.
We do the opposite. Live Matelec pricing on every line. Selection guidance on the page. A phone number, (08) 6384 5884, answered by people who have wired this gear. If you need something Matelec makes but we have not listed yet, ask us, because we can usually get it. See delivery and shipping or contact us.
Yes. Matelec Australia manufactures its pump and motor control range in house at its facility in Victoria, and supplies control panels into water utilities, mining, agriculture, defence, health and HVAC projects.
On this page, yes. Every Matelec product we list has a live price and an add to cart button. You do not need to submit a quote form to find out what a Matelec controller costs.
We ship Matelec Australia wide, including Bunbury, Albany, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Karratha, Port Hedland and Broome, plus every eastern state. Orders over $100 ship free.
Most sewage pits run a Matelec HydroSTART or HydroSTART PRO dual pump controller with 9004 series floats or a multi level float tree, in an IP56 inner door enclosure. Dual pump gives you duty and standby so one failure does not overflow the pit.
HydroSTART covers standard single and dual pump level control with current sensing. The Matelec HydroSTART PRO adds the higher end feature set aimed at professional installers, including richer data logging and configuration.
Yes. Matelec panels connect to mains supply, so installation and commissioning must be done by a licensed electrician under AS/NZS 3000. We supply the gear, not the wiring.
Yes. A Matelec controller is brand agnostic. It cares about phase, voltage and full load amps, not the badge on the pump. Check our Grundfos, Davey and Tsurumi collections.
If the install is within a few kilometres of the coast, in a wash down area, or exposed to effluent vapour, choose the 316 stainless Matelec version. Inland and sheltered, powder coated mild steel at IP56 is fine.
Selected Matelec builds include BMS volt free outputs, and IoT and BMS variants are available in the HydroSTART line. Tell us what your building management system expects and we will point you to the right Matelec part number.
Call us before you order and it will not happen. If it does, contact us and we will work through it. Sending the wrong Matelec panel back through freight helps nobody, so we would rather spend five minutes on the phone first.
If you are still weighing up two Matelec part numbers, call (08) 6384 5884 between 9am and 5pm weekdays, or email hello@pumptastic.com.au. Tell us the pump, the phase, the site and what you need it to do. We will name the Matelec model and tell you honestly if a cheaper one in the range does the same job.
