A dosing pump injects a set amount of chemical into a pipe that is already under pressure. That is the hard part. Your main line might be sitting at 400 kPa. The pump has to push against that and still deliver an exact volume, every stroke, all day.
People buy these for chlorine and pH control in water treatment, for antiscalant and flocculant on mine sites, for sanitiser in food processing, for pool chemistry, and for fertiliser injection into irrigation. The job is the same in all of them. Small amount, exact amount, against pressure.
That is why a transfer pump won't do it and a venturi injector won't do it reliably. A venturi's dose changes every time your line pressure changes. A dosing pump's doesn't.
Small doses, high pressure. The range runs from 1.5 L/hr up to 24 L/hr.
Notice what happens as the flow goes up: the DOSMART1.5 does 1.5 L/hr at 16 bar, and the DOSMART24 does 24 L/hr at 5 bar. More flow means less pressure. That trade-off is built into the pump head and you cannot get around it. Pick based on whichever of the two numbers is the tighter constraint for you.
All five DOSMART models sit at the same price, so there is no cost reason to undersize. Pick the one that matches your duty.
These use a step motor rather than a solenoid. That matters more than it sounds. A solenoid pump doses in pulses and struggles at low settings. A step motor gives you smooth, steady output right down the bottom of its range, which is where most people actually run.
Bigger flows for industrial work. The models here run from 10 L/hr up to 1200 L/hr.
The same trade-off applies. The DTEC-AC2-10 gives 10 L/hr at 1500 kPa. The DTEC-AC3-1200 gives 1200 L/hr but only 550 kPa. The AC2 models use 20 mm connections, the AC3 models use 32 mm.
These are piston-head pumps with advanced control functions. They are a serious spend and they are built for continuous industrial duty, not a shed.

Four questions. Get these right and the model picks itself.
This comes first, not last. The chemical decides the pump head, the seals and the valve materials. Get it wrong and you will be replacing parts in weeks.
Sodium hypochlorite is the one that catches people out. It off-gasses. The bubbles collect in the pump head and the pump loses prime while still appearing to run. If you are dosing chlorine, tell us, because the head needs to handle gas.
Strong acids, caustic soda, and anything with solids in suspension all have their own requirements. Ring us with the product name or the SDS and we will confirm compatibility before you order.
Chemical (L/hr) = (Water flow in L/hr × Target dose in ppm) ÷ Strength of your chemical in mg/L
A worked example. Say you are treating 20,000 L/hr of water, you want 2 ppm of free chlorine, and you are using 12.5% sodium hypochlorite. That solution is 125,000 mg/L.
(20,000 × 2) ÷ 125,000 = 0.32 L/hr
Now pick a pump. You want your normal running rate to sit comfortably inside the pump's range, not scraping the very bottom of it. At 0.32 L/hr you would run a DOSMART1.5 at around 21% of its maximum. On a cheap solenoid pump that would be marginal. On a step-motor pump like these it is fine, and it leaves you headroom to lift the dose if your water quality changes.
If your calculated rate is more than about 70% of a pump's maximum, go up a size. You want somewhere to go.
Not the pressure at your pump. The pressure in the pipe where the chemical goes in.
The pump's rating has to beat that number with room to spare. If your line runs at 600 kPa, do not buy a pump rated at 700 kPa. Something in the system will spike above that and the pump will stall or the relief valve will lift.
One conversion that trips people up: 1 bar is 100 kPa. So a 16 bar DOSMART is a 1600 kPa pump.
Manual is the cheapest. You set the stroke and it runs at that rate until you change it. Fine when your flow is steady.
If your water flow varies, you want the pump to follow it. That means a flow-proportional setup driven by a pulse signal from a water meter, or a 4-20 mA signal from a controller. The DOSMART and DOSTEC AC ranges both handle this. Have a look at our pump controllers if you need the sensing side as well.
The pump is not the whole job. Three things get left off orders constantly and hold up commissioning.
An injection valve. This goes into your main line and stops treated water flowing back into your chemical tank. You need one. It is not optional.
A foot valve and strainer. Sits in the bottom of the drum. Keeps the suction line primed and keeps grit out of the pump head.
A calibration column. A clear tube you draw from to check what the pump is really delivering. Without one you are trusting the dial. With one you can verify the actual rate in about two minutes.
You may also need stainless steel fittings or ball valves for isolation. If sediment is fouling your injection point, our filtration range is worth a look.

A piston pump generally reaches higher pressures and suits clean, non-aggressive fluids. A diaphragm pump seals the chemical away from the drive components completely, so there is no leak path. If you are handling anything hazardous or corrosive, diaphragm is usually the safer choice.
Multiply your water flow in litres per hour by your target dose in ppm, then divide by the strength of your chemical in mg/L. That gives you litres per hour of chemical. Choose a pump where that figure sits well inside its range rather than at either extreme.
Yes, but sodium hypochlorite releases gas that can collect in the pump head and cause a loss of prime. The head needs to suit that. Call us with your chemical before ordering so we can confirm the right configuration.
DOSMART covers small, precise doses from 1.5 to 24 L/hr and suits pool, light commercial and small water treatment work. DOSTEC AC covers 10 to 1200 L/hr for industrial duty. If your dose rate is under about 25 L/hr, start with DOSMART.
It is a physical trade-off in the pump head. A larger displacement moves more volume per stroke but cannot generate as much pressure from the same motor. Work out which of the two numbers is your real limit and size to that one.
Nearly always. You want an injection valve in the main line, a foot valve and strainer in the chemical drum, and a calibration column so you can verify the actual output. These are cheap and they are what makes the system work properly.
