What Comes in a Grundfos Booster Set

Hydro Multi-E: the simpler option

There is no separate control cabinet. The variable speed drive and the controller sit on each pump motor, and the pumps talk to each other directly. Any pump can act as the master, so you have backup at the control level too, not just the pump level. Your contractor commissions it through the display on the lead pump, or over Bluetooth using the Grundfos GO app.

This is the right fit for hotels, schools, aged care homes, gyms, retail centres, smaller apartment blocks, wash bays and irrigation duties. Multi-E 2 means two pumps, Multi-E 3 means three.

Hydro MPC-E: for larger or more complex jobs

The MPC-E adds a dedicated CU 352 control panel. That brings cascade control across up to six pumps, pipe-fill mode for filling empty risers gently, proportional pressure control, and redundancy on the sensors. An optional CIM module connects the set to a building management system over Modbus, BACnet or Profinet.

Specify MPC-E for hospitals, high-rise towers, water authorities and industrial process water, or any project where the engineer has written a control specification. The MPC-E sets on this page reach flows above 340 cubic metres per hour.

A rough rule: if nobody has asked for building management integration and your duty sits under about 70 cubic metres per hour, a Multi-E will usually do the same job for less money. Sizing a Booster Set: Three Numbers We Need

Buying the wrong booster set is an expensive mistake at these prices, so it is worth pinning down three things first.

1. Peak flow. The most water the system will ever need at one time, in litres per second or cubic metres per hour. Work out what runs at the same time, not the total of every fixture on the drawing.
2. Discharge pressure. What you need at the highest or furthest outlet, in metres of head or kPa. Allow for the height of the building and for friction losses along long pipe runs.
3. Suction conditions. Is the set fed from a storage tank, from town mains already under pressure, or from a bore? Inlet pressure changes which model suits.
