A transducer is the part of your system that tells the truth about what is happening inside the pipe. What a Transducer Actually Does

A transducer turns a physical thing, pressure or liquid depth, into an electrical signal a machine can read. Our transducer range outputs 4-20mA over two wires. That signal goes straight into a PLC, a pump controller, a VSD, an HMI or a SCADA system. The controller then knows the real number and can start, stop or ramp the pump on its own. Four milliamps is the bottom of the transducer range. Twenty milliamps is the top. A 0-25 bar transducer sitting at 12mA is reading about 12.5 bar. The reason industry settled on this and stayed there is simple. If a cable is cut or a transducer dies, the loop drops to zero, not to 4mA. The controller can tell the difference between a real reading of nothing and a broken transducer. A voltage transducer cannot do that, and voltage also sags over a long cable run. On a bore 400 metres from the shed, a 4-20mA transducer still reads correctly at the far end.

Transducer Accuracy Is Where Cheap Units Fall Over

Most people compare transducers on price and pressure range. The number that actually decides whether you are happy in two years is accuracy, written as a percentage of full scale. Our transducer range is 0.5% FS. A lot of the general purpose gear sold into Australian pump work sits at 1.0% FS. On a 25 bar transducer that difference is 0.125 bar against 0.25 bar. It sounds small on paper. On a variable speed pump holding setpoint, a transducer with double the error means the drive hunts, the pump cycles more, and you wear out a mechanical seal early. Repeatability matters just as much. A transducer that reads 6.00 bar this morning and 6.00 bar next winter is doing its job. One that drifts with temperature is quietly lying to your controller. Every transducer we stock is temperature rated from -20°C to +80°C, which covers a Pilbara summer and a Wheatbelt frost with room left over.

PWP310C Pressure Transducer, 0-10, 0-16 and 0-25 Bar

The PWP310C is our general purpose pressure transducer and it is the one most people need. It reads line pressure and reports it as 4-20mA. Three ranges cover nearly everything: PWP310C10 for 0-10 bar, PWP310C16 for 0-16 bar, and PWP310C25 for 0-25 bar. All three are $195. Every PWP310C transducer shares the same build. Two-wire 4-20mA output. 12-30VDC loop powered, so the same pair of wires carries power and signal and you are not running a separate supply to the transducer. A 1/4 inch NPT male pressure port. A two metre direct cable outlet. SS316L stainless body. IP66. 0.5% FS accuracy. Overload protection at 1.5 times full scale, so a water hammer spike will not destroy the transducer. Pick the transducer range that puts your normal working pressure in the middle of the scale, not at the very top. A domestic or light commercial pressure system running at 4 to 5 bar is a clean fit for the 0-10 bar transducer. A commercial booster set or a long irrigation main is usually 0-16 bar. Reticulation off a deep bore, high rise boosting, and industrial pipeline duty go to the 0-25 bar transducer. Sizing a transducer too high throws away resolution. Sizing it too low means you clip the top and lose the reading exactly when you need it. These transducers are at home in HVAC and chiller plant, pump control panels, air conditioning systems, process automation, fire pump monitoring, and general pipeline work.

PWP416 Submersible Level Transducer, 0-4m and 0-10m

The submersible level transducer is a different animal and solves a different problem. Instead of reading pressure in a pipe, this transducer hangs in the liquid and measures the head of water above it, which tells you the depth. It is how you get a real tank level, a real bore standing water level, or a real sump level into a controller. Inside is a German piezoresistive sensing element in a 316L stainless housing, with an anti-clog weight protection base so the transducer sits properly and the diaphragm does not blind up in dirty water. Four options:

Range and cable length are two separate decisions and people mix them up. Range is how deep the water gets above the transducer. Cable is how far the transducer has to hang below your junction box or panel. A 3 metre poly tank needs a 0-4m transducer, but if the panel is on the shed wall 20 metres away you still want the 30m cable. Order a transducer with cable that is too short and you cannot splice it without wrecking the vent tube and the IP rating. Once a submersible level transducer is feeding a controller you can do the things that actually save money. Automatic pump-off protection so a bore pump never runs dry. Tank top-up on real level instead of a float that sticks. Alarms on high level in a sump before it goes over the top. Level trending so you can see a bore drawing down over a season.

Bore Water, Chloride and Why SS316L Is Not Optional

Groundwater across the Perth basin, the Wheatbelt and the Goldfields carries real salinity. Chloride attacks 304 stainless and pits it. A transducer with a 304 body or a plated brass port will look fine for a season and then start reading nonsense as the wetted parts corrode. Everything in this transducer range uses SS316L for the wetted parts, which is the grade that handles chloride. It is the same reason bore pump specifiers keep asking for 316 pump ends in the Wheatbelt and the Mid West. Heat is the other one. A transducer bolted to a pipe in an uninsulated shed near Kalgoorlie or Karratha spends summer well above ambient. Our transducer range is rated to +80°C, so it stays inside spec instead of drifting.
