View full detailsDavey Pumps have been keeping water moving on Australian properties since 1934, and after selling them out of our Perth warehouse for years I can tell you exactly why people keep coming back for them. They are built for our water, not someone else's. Bore water with iron in it. Rainwater tanks that run dry in February. Reticulation on a half-acre block in 40 degree heat. Davey Water Products designs and manufactures in Scoresby, Victoria, and that local engineering shows up in small ways that matter, like impeller clearances that tolerate a bit of grit and motors that do not cook themselves when the ambient temperature climbs. At Pumptastic we stock the Davey range with prices on the screen, which is more than most of our competitors will do.
There are cheaper pumps. I sell some of them. But there is a reason a plumber in Bunbury will specify a Davey pressure pump on a job and then not think about it again for eight years. The build quality is genuinely different at the wear points. The mechanical seals are better. The stainless steel in the HM series wet end is proper 304, which matters enormously if you are drawing scheme water with any chloride in it or bore water anywhere in the Wheatbelt. Parts availability is the other thing nobody talks about until they need it. A capacitor or a pressure switch for a Davey unit is a phone call away in Australia. Try that with a grey-import pump from overseas and you will be waiting six weeks or replacing the whole unit. That is the real cost of a cheap pump, and it is why the total cost of ownership on Davey Pumps usually beats the alternatives even when the sticker price does not.
The other genuine advantage is Torrium2. Davey's controller technology replaced the old pressure switch and tank arrangement with something that reads flow and pressure together, and it changed household water systems in this country. A conventional pressure switch cuts in and out at fixed points, so you get the pressure surge in the shower every time someone flushes a toilet. Torrium2 holds constant pressure across changing demand and has built-in dry run protection, which is the feature that has saved more pumps in WA than any other. When your rainwater tank runs empty in summer, and it will, the controller shuts the pump down before the seal cooks instead of letting it run itself to death overnight. We carry Torrium2 as a standalone controller in the TT45 and TT70 units, so if you already own a good pump on a failing pressure switch you can upgrade the brain without replacing the body. Have a look through our pump controllers range if that is your situation.
Most people call us with a model number they saw somewhere. That is usually the wrong starting point. What I actually need to know is how many outlets you want running at once, how far and how high the water has to travel, and where it is coming from. Get those three right and the model picks itself.
If you are feeding a house off a tank, you are looking at the XJ series or the HM series. The XJ50T, XJ70T and XJ90T are jet-assisted centrifugal pumps with a Torrium2 controller built in, and they are the workhorses of the Davey Pumps household range. An XJ70T comfortably handles a three or four bathroom home with a couple of garden taps. The XJ90T at 1.1kW is what I put on larger homes or where the tank sits a long way from the house. The HM series is horizontal multistage with a full stainless wet end, and it is a step up in both pressure and price. An HM60-08T or HM90-13T is the right call when you need mains-equivalent pressure at multiple outlets, or when you are running reticulation and household supply off the same system. The HM160-19T at 1.9kW pushes around 250 litres per minute at 600 kPa, which is farm and large-property territory. All of these pair with a pressure tank, so check our pressure tanks range, and if you are comparing brands, our pressure pumps category shows the Davey units against Grundfos and Onga equivalents side by side.
Bore water is its own world. If you are drawing from a bore, the pump selection depends on your standing water level and drawdown, not just your depth, and this is where people waste money most often. Call us before you buy. Our submersible bore pumps range covers the options, and Davey's centrifugal and multistage units handle the surface side of most bore installations well. For drainage, the Davey D-series vortex sump pumps are the standard on flooded pump pits, laundry discharge and pool emptying. The vortex impeller design is what lets them pass solids without jamming, which is exactly what you want in a pit that collects leaf litter. Compare them against the alternatives in our sump pumps collection.
The Dynapond range is one of the quiet standouts in the Davey Pumps catalogue. The DYNAPOND7000, DYNAPOND8000 and DYNAPOND15000 are submersible centrifugal units rated for genuine 24/7 continuous duty, with an adjustable inlet strainer that lets you tune flow without a separate valve. Most pond pumps at this price point are not rated for continuous operation and they die in about eighteen months. These do not. For swimming pools, the Davey Silensor series is the noise-conscious option, and you can compare running costs against other brands in our pool pumps range.
We are based in Perth and this is where being local actually changes the advice we give you. WA water is not east coast water. Scheme water in the metro area runs harder than most of the eastern states, and bore water through the Swan Coastal Plain carries iron that will stain everything and slowly chew through a cheap impeller. That is a large part of why we push people toward the stainless HM series over cheaper cast iron alternatives when they are on bore. It costs more up front and it lasts three times as long.
Regional WA is a different problem again. If you are in Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Esperance, Albany, Broome or anywhere in the Wheatbelt, the pump you buy needs to survive without a service tech nearby. That means two things. First, buy the model with the better seal and the stainless wet end, because you cannot get someone out on a Tuesday. Second, buy a brand where the spare parts exist in this country. Davey Pumps meet both criteria, and it is the main reason they dominate regional installations across the state. We ship Australia-wide with free shipping on orders over $100, and if you are in the Perth metro you can usually have a pump on site fast.
One more thing that is specific to WA and gets ignored. Water Corporation restrictions and the sprinkler roster mean your reticulation runs in a tight window, often before dawn. If you are running a bore or tank-fed retic system, your pump does its entire week's work in a few concentrated hours. That is harder on a pump than continuous light duty, and it is an argument for sizing up rather than buying the cheapest unit that technically meets your flow requirement.
I will be blunt about the difference. Search for Davey Pumps and you will land on plenty of Australian sites that show you a product, then ask you to request a quote or call for pricing. Some of them cannot sell certain Davey models online at all. We show you the price. You can see that the HS50-06T is $1,045 and the XJ90T is $1,160 before you speak to anyone. That respects your time.
The second difference is that when you call (08) 6384 5884 you get someone who sizes pumps for a living, not a call centre. Ninety percent of pump failures I see are selection or installation problems, not manufacturing faults. An undersized pump short-cycling itself to death. A suction line with an air leak. A pressure tank with the wrong pre-charge. Five minutes on the phone before you buy saves that. We stock the full brand range including Grundfos, Onga and Tsurumi, so if a Davey unit is genuinely not the best fit for your job, we will tell you that too. Browse the full range above, or get in touch and we will size it for you.
Davey Water Products is an Australian company founded in 1934 with manufacturing and engineering based in Scoresby, Victoria. Some components in the range are sourced internationally, which is normal for every pump brand sold here, but the design, testing and a significant portion of manufacturing is Australian. This matters practically because it means parts and warranty support exist locally.
On a correctly sized domestic installation, expect eight to fifteen years from a Davey pressure pump. The variables that shorten that are short-cycling from an undersized or wrongly configured pressure tank, running dry, and abrasive water. Bore water with sand in it is the biggest killer. A properly matched system with Torrium2 dry run protection will usually reach the upper end of that range.
Torrium2 is Davey's electronic pump controller. Instead of switching the pump on and off at fixed pressure points like a traditional pressure switch, it monitors flow and pressure together to hold steady output. It also includes dry run protection and automatic restart. If you have ever had the shower pressure drop when the washing machine fills, that is the problem Torrium2 solves. Most Davey household systems marked with a "T" in the model number include it.
For a standard three bathroom home, an XJ70T handles it comfortably. Smaller homes or single-bathroom setups can run an XJ50T. If your tank is a long way from the house, or you are running reticulation off the same tank, step up to the XJ90T or into the HM series. The distance and height from tank to outlet matters more than most people expect.
You can buy directly from this page. Prices are shown and you can check out online. Some Australian retailers cannot display pricing or sell certain Davey models online. We can and do. If you want a second opinion on sizing before you commit, call (08) 6384 5884 and we will check your numbers first.
The XJ series is a single-stage jet-assisted centrifugal pump. Good flow, moderate pressure, lower cost, ideal for standard household supply. The HM series is horizontal multistage with a stainless steel wet end. It generates significantly higher pressure, handles warmer and more corrosive water, and lasts longer in hard conditions. If you are on bore water or need mains-equivalent pressure at several outlets at once, the HM series is worth the extra spend.
Yes. We ship Australia-wide, including regional WA, and shipping is free on orders over $100. We regularly send pumps to Geraldton, Albany, Esperance, Kalgoorlie, Bunbury and the Wheatbelt. For remote destinations, message us before ordering and we will confirm the delivery window.
Davey provides a manufacturer's warranty that varies by product line, typically two to three years on domestic pumps. Warranty requires correct installation, so keep your invoice and, where electrical connection is involved, use a licensed electrician. Improper installation is the most common reason a warranty claim gets rejected.
If your pump uses a traditional pressure switch, yes, absolutely. Without a tank the pump cycles on and off constantly and destroys itself. If your pump has a Torrium2 controller, a small tank is often still recommended to smooth demand and reduce cycling, but the requirement is less critical. Our team can confirm what your specific model needs.
Yes, but the model choice matters. Bore water often carries iron, sand and dissolved minerals. For that, choose a model with a stainless steel wet end such as the HM series rather than a cast iron alternative. Sediment filtration ahead of the pump extends its life considerably. Tell us your bore's standing water level and drawdown and we will size it properly.
