The Grundfos SEG pumps are submersible units with a lateral discharge port and are primarily used for pressurized toilet wastewater pumping. The SEG pumps are equipped with a grinder system, enabling them to process destructible solids into small particles that can be transported through narrow pipes.

The surface of the SEG pump is designed to be smooth to avoid collection of dirt and other impurities. The pump casing is mostly made of cast iron. The SEG pump's casting is complemented with a stainless steel clamp which serves to secure the motor to the pump casing. This guard provides the SEG pump with a corrosion resistant clamp, provides for easy servicing of the pump, and thermal protection for the motor. The power cable of the SEG pump not only provides power, but also thermal protection wiring for the motor windings. The pump cable to the motor connection is through a plug. The plug connection is totally sealed which serves to prevent moisture ingress, through the pump cable, to the pump in the event of damage to the cable due to mishandling of the pump or adverse conditions.  

The controller and the pump must be linked via an intrinsic safety barrier, for instance, LC-Ex4 which is distributed by Grundfos A/S.  

VTT has approved the pump for commissioning under the ATEX directive.
